HARMONY

Why is it the violin,
The cello, harp and the mandolin
Wood and string, yet the song they sing
So different in every way?
How is it that the saxophone,
The flute, trumpet and trombone
Wind and air yet the tone is clear
So different in every way?
Take the cymbals longing chill
Little bells - yet another trill
Pedal - BOOM! And it echoes still
But different in every way?
I have asked the Rabbi why
He stroked his beard,
Creased his eyes as he said
His hand upon my head
“My son,” is what he said,
“We call it harmony!”
“Think! If there was just one kind
Just one heart and just one mind
Every creature, all in one
How empty it all would seem”
“I remember as a child
We picked the flowers growing wild
Licked our fingers, wet the petals
Colors you’d never dream!”
“Ask your friend if the sky is blue
He’ll tell you - No! It’s a blend of blue
Sometimes white and purple too
And black - and even red!”
“Every color lends its shade
Singles out, why, every blade that may grow
And this, I’m sure you know
Hashem has blessed us so
With perfect harmony!”
‘Harmony’ - they call it ‘Melody’
And sometimes ‘Symphony’
It’s all the same
Just one touch
And everything changes much
That one little extra touch
We’ve painted a world
In Perfect Harmony!
Every person, even more
Knows what he is living for
Common goals, the same ideas
Yet different in every way
One has talent, one has wealth
One has wisdom, one has health
One can feel and cry for others
And one can heal the sick
Some are darker, some are tall
Some don’t seem to stand out at all
Some have customs seemingly strange
And others we often miss
Every color lends its shade
Singles out, why, every blade that may grow
And this, I’m sure you know
Hashem has blessed us so
With perfect harmony!
‘Harmony’ - they call it ‘Melody’
And sometimes ‘Symphony’
It’s all the same
Just one touch
And everything changes much
That one little extra touch
We’ve painted a world
In Perfect Harmony!
